U of M Wombats 27 - Brandon Barbarians 19
The Barbs' 25th Season Opener didn't go quite as planned as the Wombats continued to be a thorn in the side of the Barbarians defeating the visitors 27-19 in a game played at Maple Grove.
The Wombats scored on a penalty kick at ten minutes and led throughout the game. Individual Barbs trys were scored by Tom Robson, Kevin Teneycke and Owen Hagen. Sean Common converted two of the trys.
Team Manager Owen Hagen observed that the play of the two teams was pretty much the same. "Small errors were fatal to us," he said. "You cannot make these kinds of mistakes and not have a team like the Wombats take full advantage of the opportunities."
It is noted here that Barb back Warren Truscott played a fine game with several runs and tackles that demonstrated his continuing progress as a player. Warren played rugby for the Crocus Plainsmen, advanced his skills in the Barbs' Colts program and is now showing maturity in his thinking and playing the senior game. He is a great example of the Barbs' development programs at work.

The Barbs' home opener for the club's 25th season is 7:00pm, Thursday, June 22 against the Dauphin Mavericks.
