The Barbarians' season record now stands at five wins, one loss after defeating the Assassins 25-0 at Maple Grove. As of July 25, the Assassins were in First Place the Division 2 "A" Pool. In the "B" Pool, the Barbs were tied with Wombats "points wise" for First Place. Technically. the Wombats are first for having beaten the Barbs earlier in the season.
The game between the Barbs and the Assassins was a rather lackluster affair with neither team able to develop any serious momentum. When the possession of the ball changes as often as it did, it is difficult to maintain the necessary continuity in team play. The Assassins opened the scoring with a try at 30 minutes. followed by the Barbs' Tom Robson about five minutes later. The game was tied 5-5 at the half.
The Barbs pulled up their socks somewhat in the second half. Andrew Ritchie made two trys and Sean Common added another ten points to his 2006 season total of 101 with a try, a conversion and a penalty kick.
The Barbs will be playing two exhibition games this week. The Manitoba Provincial Under-18 Boys will play the Barbs in Portage la Prairie, 7:30pm on Thursday. And on Saturday, the 2006 Barbs will take on the Barbs Old Boys (or Legends) at CGRP as part of the Barbarians' 25th Anniversary Celebrations.

Play in the 2006 season continues on Saturday, August 12 when the Saracens come calling on the Barbs at home at CGRP.
