Barbarians 39 - Dauphin Mavericks 14
Day Two of the Road Trip weekend was Dish Dash Day for the Barbs up in Dauphin. It was celebrated "appropriately" with a victory over the Mavericks 39-14. Thanks to former Barbarian Leon Lekteman for bringing the concept here. It seems to bring us good luck !!!
Sean Erickson made two trys and a convert to lead the Barbs' scoring with 12 points. Right behind was Jim Ritchie with two trys for 10 points. Single trys were scored by Jamie Munro, Sean Common and Brian Yon. Brent Gallant, substituting for Sean Common (a touch of the flu but still managing to play and score a try) and Sean Erickson (darn hamstring again) made a single convert. Brent might have had two converts, but the prevailing breezes directed the ball smack into the upright.
The Barbs realized that they were in a hard game right from the beginning. This was NOT the Mavericks team they played and clobbered 66-5 back in June. The Mavericks put up a good fight in the first half and were behind but a single point at the half with the score at 15-14. The depth of the Barbarians took care in the second half with 24 unanswered points.
The Barbs' season now stands at 8 wins, 1 loss. They will try to avenge that single loss to the U of M Wombats in a home game, Sunday, September 10.
