RUGBY MANITOBA SENIOR MEN DIVISION I Sunday, July 11, Canada Games Rugby Park Brandon Barbarians 32 - Winnipeg Saracens 8 It was indeed a hot one on Field A at game time: temp 31, Humidex 37. Referee Colin Gibbs made certain that everyone could play the game, and, during the play, called enough water breaks for both teams to stay hydrated. So how hot was it really? John Reilly decided to join those up in the cheap seats on the west berm and he brought along an umbrella. Enough said. Down on the pitch, the Barbs were quite methodical in their play not really giving anything to the Saracens but also taking advantage when they had the opportunity. Special mention has to go to veteran Rob Smith who showed the guys, by example, how to play rugby in the oppressive heat and how not to lose one's cool. The score at half time was 10-8 for the Barbs. Scoring 22 unanswered points the the second half showed the Barbs' superior fitness and conditioning. Scoring for the Barbs with a try apiece were Shane Morgan who also made one conversion, Nathan Peto, Warren Truscott, Jim Ritchie, Scott McMullan and Andrew Halliday. Next Saturday, the Barbs host the Wasps at home. Game time is 3pm. Reilly is also organizing a Barbs'-Wasps' Old Boys game. In addition, Bruce Stewart will be showing (and selling) some new kit, including a new cap and a new kangy. Get to Canada Games Rugby Park for the Ladies Barbs'-Wasps' game at 1pm.
